This year’s Women Deliver is taking place in Vancouver, Canada and is the world’s largest conference on gender equality and the health, rights, and well-being of girls and women in the 21st Century.
Reach is excited to be joining our colleagues working on the frontlines of gender equality and the health, rights and wellbeing of girls and women at this important global event. Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) affects almost twice as many women as men, and most woman who are affected are of child-bearing age at an average age of 28 years. In low- and middle- income countries RHD is an important determinant of morbidity and mortality. In countries in Sub-Saharan Africa a high prevalence of RHD coincides with high maternal mortality rates with RHD contributing to almost 30% of the cardiovascular disease seen in pregnancy in the region and is associated with a mortality rate of 34%. The intersects of rheumatic heart disease and maternal health are clear.
Reach will also have a booth at this year’s Women Deliver Conference and you can find us at location 379 in the main exhibition hall. Here you can meet the Reach team, find out more about our work and discuss areas for collaboration. We’d love to meet you and find out more about the work you’re involved in and look forward to seeing you at this important event in Vancouver.
